Preparation
Choose your popsicle flavors: write down which ingredients you plan to combine and in which order for each of your 6 molds. Note that it’s easier to make the same “style” of popsicle per batch (e.g. all three-layered, all two-layered, or all single-flavored).
Set up your rocket ship popsicle molds in the stand provided, and clear a space in your freezer to allow them to stand upright on a flat surface.
Follow the step below for your chosen style of popsicle:
For three-layered popsicles, add ½ Tablespoon per mold of the ingredient that will form the top of each rocket ship. Continue to step 4.
For two-layered popsicles, add 1 Tablespoon per mold of the ingredient that will form the top of each rocket ship. Continue to step 4.
For single-flavored popsicles, add a scant ⅓ cup of your chosen flavor to each rocket ship. Be careful to leave about ¼ inch empty at the top to allow the content to expand during freezing. Next, skip ahead to step 8.
Place your popsicles with their stand in the freezer. Let freeze for about 25 minutes, depending on your freezer. The bottom layer should look mostly set, but not solid, to allow it to bond well with the next layer.
Remove your popsicles from the freezer and add the next layer as follows for your chosen style of popsicle:
For three-layered popsicles, add ½ Tablespoon per mold of the ingredient that will form the middle layer of each rocket ship. Continue to step 6.
For two-layered popsicles, add about ¼ cup per mold of the ingredient that will form the bottom of each rocket ship. Be careful to leave about ¼ inch empty at the top to allow the content to expand during freezing. Next, skip ahead to step 8.
Place your popsicles with their stand in the freezer. Let freeze for about 25 minutes, depending on your freezer. The middle layer should look mostly set, but not solid, to allow it to bond well with the next layer.
Remove your popsicles from the freezer and add about ¼ cup per mold of the ingredient that will form the bottom of each rocket ship. Be careful to leave about ¼ inch empty at the top to allow the content to expand during freezing.
Carefully insert the popsicle handles into each mold, fitting each snugly in place to “close” the mold.
Place your popsicles with their stand in the freezer, and let freeze for at least 7 hours and ideally overnight.
To launch your popsicles into the hands of your space explorers, run each mold under warm water for 5 to 10 seconds (try 5 seconds first!) then wriggle the handle and mold to slide the popsicle out of the mold. This might take a little patience but all of my rockets have launched successfully so far. Enjoy your spacey treats!
